WHY WILL A DOCTOR RECOMMEND AN ECHO?
An ECHO helps in determining the following:
- To determine if shortness of breath or chest pain is caused by heart-related complications.
- To detect congenital heart defects before the birth of a child
- To determine if there are any problems with the chambers or valves of the heart.
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF ECHO?
- Stress Echocardiogram
- Transthoracic echocardiogram
ARE THERE ANY RISKS INVOLVED IN UNDERGOING AN ECHO?
There are no risks involved in a standard echocardiogram. While undergoing a stress echocardiogram, exercise or medication may temporarily cause an irregular heartbeat.
DO I HAVE TO UNDERGO ANY SPECIAL PREPARATIONS BEFORE OR WHILE CONDUCTING AN ECHO?
You do not have to make any precautions in case of a standard transthoracic echocardiogram. You are free to eat or drink normally.
